Our friends and clients at Projective Space recently found some beautiful treasures hidden under floorboards while renovating their new Lower East Side space, we thought they were too beautiful to not share! One man’s trash!

We did a little research and found…

Both cigarette boxes date back to 1910 and feature artwork inspired by Owen Jones: a London born architect who reproduced the ornate designs he found while traveling in Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and India.

We thought it was pretty funny that the design for the “Turkish Cigarettes” packaging clearly took its style cues from Egypt.

The Juicy Fruit wrapper and matchbooks, all date back to the 1920’s. One of the matchbooks actually has an ad for life insurance: $5,000 worth of coverage for 5 bucks!

My admiration was taken to new heights when my husband gave me a gift certificate to Brooklyn Boulders for Christmas. Now that I’m “learning the ropes”, I’m loving the use of repurposed climbing ropes for furniture, jewelry and other random objects. Another awesome gift from my husband: a pottery class at Clayworks on Columbia. It’s so cool to make something beautiful from a hunk of mud. This kind of abstract beauty has always appealed to me and at Art Basel Miami Beach this year my favorite piece was “H. I. L. M. D. A.” by Jillian Mayer. Another type of beautiful: I found this poncho of my Mom’s over Thanksgiving. Nothing better than a bit of nostalgia – which brings me to my new 90s chop! I cut all my hair off a few weeks back and when playing soccer on the weekend with friends, I look almost as good as these Chanel babes!”

So, each month we will jump inside the head of a member of our team and see what is inspiring them at the moment on our blog. Sometimes new discoveries, sometimes a return to old ones, our inspirations are always changing and always driving what we do.

We asked Roanne to get the ball rolling by telling us what is inspiring her at the moment. Here’s what she said:

“Since we moved to our new office (yay!!), I’ve become a been studying up on interior design for work spaces. Although I’ll probably stick with the classics (Eames, Knoll, Saarinen, Wegner), in my searches I’ve come across some pretty obsession-worthy new interior design pieces. I’ve also really gotten into angled woodwork and metals: inspired by one of my new favorite restaurants, ISA. Owner Taavo Somer hand-made Nakashima-inspired wood tables mixed with American gothic chairs along with triangular shapes and angles.”

With one location already operating in Soho, the space aims to facilitate the cross pollination of ideas between the tech and creative industries in New York City by providing dedicated and communal workspaces, educational programming and hosting a diverse range of networking events.

The funds will help them build essential aspects to their new location, including an event stage for classes and screenings, chairs for workstations, and audio/visual equipment for classes and events.

Contribute to get free access to classes, events, and some sweet gear!
